Her milestones

Since Silja has been 2 1/2 years old, she has livened up a mixed crowd of children in a Cottbus day centre for children. Particularly the integrating character of the centre has helped Silja now not to concentrate only on her closest family but to involve other children with her playing, growing, learning to walk and talk.

After the difficulties Silja had found with learning to walk, learning to talk still presents an enormous challenge to Silja and all her family.

By now Silja commands a vocabulary of about 30 words, making up her own language and all too often this is only understood by the closest family circle.

Since coming into this world, Silja had to undergo a continuous repetition of therapies. Her normal week is nowadays determined weekly by physiotherapy twice, by speech therapy once, by rehabilitation water gymnastics once and of course language improvement on a day to day basis as well as occupational therapy in the day centre.

In order to cope with everyday life Silja not only needs mechanical aids. Her companion shadowing her everyday is the medication to reduce her convulsive tendency.
